Back from the cruise, and no novovirus on board since everyone was washing their hands like crazy, and using the anti-bacterial gel before eating - or doing anything else. When you get 800 people close together on a ship there is always the danger.
Thought I would start with that good news. Other good news was that out evening dining companions were good company - in this case we were with another couple and got on well - talk ranged over politics, religion, families - and things we had been doing every day.
There are always excursions arranged - which can be quite expensive - and also last nearly all day - so we just got off the ship and did our own thing where we moored. On two occasions we were off shore and had to be taken ashore by tenders - two of the lifeboats - there was quite a swell at Lerwick and if it was windy we would not have been able to go ashore.
You can see the tender at the side of the ship here with the gangway to the entrance on the ship - not easy for many to negotiate since a lot of people had mobility problems
We had another anchor stop in one of the Norwegian fjords where it was a millpond.
Otherwise we docked, and could make our own way off - and did some walking and sightseeing in the small towns - this was a view from the ship of Olden - at the end of the fjord
Bergen is the second largest city in Norway and we were there for the day - I shall put up some of the pictures we saw in the Art Galleries - especially Edvard Munch (famous for The Scream) - but we also took the funicular railway for the views
and this is the view of the harbour and city
and to finish today’s despatch - coming back through the Hebrides on a beautiful day - calm sea - sunshine - and these views
More to come - as the bishop..........
