Rob was asked to travel to Canada for work in October and after talking it over together, we decided he should go. If something changes between now and then that I look more likely to deliver around then (I will be 30 weeks along) or anything is even kinda uncertain, his boss is aware and said he can cancel at any time and someone else will go.

That being said, he will unfortunately have to miss one of our Labor and Delivery classes that we’re taking this fall. I don’t particularly want to go to those alone so I emailed my mom and asked if she could come with me as she will likely be in the delivery room too and Rob’s backup if it’s a long labor.

This was her response:

Yes!! Absolutely! I will be there with a big smile trying to not clap gleefully in public because I am so delighted to be there!!

I just about died from giggles at realizing she will very likely be JUST like that. In a room full of serious and focused spouses and partners, my mom will be all wide grin and eager ears and ridiculously helpful and happy, taking all of it in. I can’t wait to share it with her. Having both of my parents battle cancer in my lifetime and both given terminal diagnoses that they both miraculously survived has given me such a profound sense of gratitude for every single life step they get to be a part of. It’s such a joy to have them along with me in this life and even though I’ll miss Rob during that class, pretty sure I couldn’t pick a better substitute :)
