This may sound like an end of the year post, but it really is a Christmas post. Be warned now: I am Christian so for me Christmas is about Jesus. That said, if anyone has read any previous posts of mine this year, you know that I have struggled with my depression coming back, my son having been hospitalized, and financial struggles. It has particularly been a difficult year, but we have persevered. It has been only through the test and strength of my faith that I have been able to get through it.
Faith is a funny thing. Believing in something you can’t see. That is the point though if you follow scripture. To have faith because He is there, though you totally have the free will not to. And I am thankful that this God Man was born, spread the gospel, and died for our sins. Through him and through faith I can say that for this Christmas this is what I got:
- My son is alive and well. (Though being stubborn in school)
- My daughter is advancing and thriving
- My family is together, happy, and pulling through
- Through financial pinches we have food on our table, clothes on our backs, and a roof over our heads.
- We have the love of our extended family which is strong.
- My parents are alive a lot longer than most other people’s parents. My dad celebrated his 71st birthday this year. I am looking forward to his 90th.
- Through our financial burdens we are able to get gifts for our loved ones to show our appreciation for all that they do.
- My wonderful job that has not done me wrong. I have answered my calling, I know who I serve in it, and it is through this job/calling that I am able to provide for my family.
- My 71 year old father graduated with a degree in biblical studies and pastoral communications.
- The love of a man who annoys me to no end, challenges me (sometimes in not good ways), and is a strong foundation to build on.
So to you, Lord, I give all the thanks for these wonderful things in my life. May you bless all who choose to follow you and even those who don’t. Thank you for your love and companionship.
Merry Christmas everyone. May you spend it in love, laughter, and warmth.
