Even before breakfast Lola is curled up on the settee, she was in a position that suggests this isn’t going to be much of day, and looking out of the windows you have to agree; September as arrived with a soft day! The sky is one grey mass with out a gap for the sun to shine through, under foot the ground is wet from a fine rain you can’t hardly see, but just feel; autumn is still a few weeks off but it has felt recently as if autumn could have sneaked in ….

11.30’ish pm.

I watched a repeat of John Betjeman’s ‘Metroland’ a poetic journey out of London, following the Underground’s Metropolitan Line and it’s wondering through suburban Middlesex, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The spread of suburban London happened during the later part of Queen Victoria’s reign, the program was first shown in 1973.

One part is shot on a Golf Club, the short and squat Poet Laureate is talking to the camera club in hand, once he has said his piece he address the ball, carefully spreads his feet, bends his left knee and swings the club back; then he tee’s of with swift swing. Looking down he see’s the ball as just rolled of the tee, he looks up with a grin that widens the more he looks into the camera; with his body shaking with laughter he says ‘That wasn’t much good’ Having said that he wonders of to do things he is good at; delivering poetic lines to camera.
