Hullo there Readers,
I cannot let another day go by without doing an entry.Sometimes events take over your thinking and perceptions are permanently altered.Being 70 yrs old, and having a longer view makes these changes even more dramatic.
The first took place yesterday. In a little South Island town, Ashburton, a gunman entered a local Work and Income office and shot two staff dead and seriously wounded another then took off.
Now, I and many others in NZ have had reason to go to Winz for help, financial , housing, food grants etc and many of us, who receive financial assistance from
Winz have had reason to believe they are badly treated and I am one of those. However, the mere thought of hurting the staff never enters our heads. My late husband was an invalid for many years until his death, even though he could still sail, and I was the one who acted for him.Now I am on the pension and need assiistance every now and then.Sometimes I have been patronised ,told I was ‘naughty’ (doh!), refused hel and had people be really rude to me and I have left in tears or furious. However, I have never thought of physically attacking the staff!I have now learned to listen and not comment, just smile and be grateful. It transpires the gunman had been very difficult to deal with and had been offered help and refused on many occasions.
I figure and I have heard it touted in the media, that he was mentally ill.
However, that is still no reason. There is no justification to kill people doing their job.It genuinely horrifies me, and all I can do is pray for the families of those dead and the severely injured. You do not expect loved ones to go to work and not come home because they have been murdered.
I am shocked and feel as if we have turned a page in our history of violence. The man is mentally ill and must be kept inside forever.
Some 30 yrs ago ,we changed our Mental Health system and closed our instition leaving all mentally ill,(except for the most extreme) in the community. It isn’t working.
Please God, don’t let this previously unimagined crime happen again.
The second event was really just incredible in a different way.
WE ,as a country, have always considered ourselves above corruption in Government.Oh dear, our ‘rose-tinted glasses’ have been smashed! Our present Government has been found to have been conducting smear campaigns and interference in major events. All through emails, which were then hacked and revealed. It is shocking and somewhat disillusioning to most of us.I have never liked the Government.I am a Labour voter through and through. However, this den of iniquity which is the govt, blows me away.As POlz said, our Minister of Justice, (no less!) has been forced to resign, as she was found to be complicit in her relationship with a
right wing, disgusting blofgger and has been feeding him informationto bring down individuals on the left and in some financial positions.A book published 3 weeks ago gave irrefutable evidence.
We have a General Election in 3 weeks time, heavens above! Please let all the capitalists, millionaires and right wing voters rub the scales from their eyes and see that this is a corrupt Goverment which must go!Once again I am shocked and saddened.
On a lighter note.. My dear litttle granddaughter Paige, the apple of her granny’s eye, turned 8 on the weekend and we had a lovely party and did a crazy ‘ice challenge”!Well, me and my crazy daughters did!Paige is very loving, very gentle and the baby of my 9 grandies!Always has hugs for me and I adore her.
Not quite such good news.My 9 year old grandson who has been diagnosed with Crohns disease is not doing as well as expected.
He went to Hospital to have an MRI and a hernia repair underanaesthetic last Thursday. After 6 weeks of a liquid diet to rest his bowel, they found the major fistula was even MORE active and causing more ulceration in his bowel. The good news is that the highly nutritious piquid diet has ut 6 kgs of weight onto his frame and he is looking better for it.They are going to try a far stonger antibiotic when they have got ermission.Crohns id an auto-immune disease.
So, good and not so good. The lovely silver lining is that he talks to us,his family about it and is showing great humour and maturity God Bless him! Please pray for him and think of him.
It is officially Spring now after 3 days of rain, wind and cold,it is sunny and warmer.Spring blossom is showing and I love the promise of Summer.Penny’s lot have all come down with a horrible relapse of the ‘flu and I feel so sorry for them.
I am well,so far, and it has made me feel very much better just writing about these ‘events’.,
God Bless and lots of love and be kind to each other.

I was chatting at bus stop earlier with an old man who'd had negative dealings with WINZ over the years, and her agreed too that all the factors re the shooter combined to create a recipe for a disaster. Remember the guy was actually under a death sentence from a terminal illness....fear can do crazy things to the mind. hugs p

People that work in position like those that were killed have to have compassion. But those that go to see them also need to realize that the staff does NOT make policy. They just have to follow the rules. It's like blaming customer service for what upper management decides.

I agree Crystal Butterfly.Like the old saying,'Don't shoot the messenger!'A very sad situation as the receptionist who isn't directly involved with the clients was the first to be shot. She had been there decades and was due to retire.Lovexx
