Saturday of a 3 day weekend in Day to day life from a woman that turned 60 in Oct 2014 and who lives on a farm and Retired on January 2, 2016. I plan to do more sewing, work outside in the yard and just enjoy my retirement.

I have had the best week at work EVER!! Good things come to those who wait was spot on this week. It started on Tuesday when I met with my boss to go over my employees Development Plans that they and I had done earlier. Awesome discussion with boss and some positive words for me. The regular staff meeting on Thursday brought even more positive things for my employees and Thursday I submitted a spreadsheet of award recommendations for my employees. No awards have been approved for them by my boss for a couple of years so I was hopeful this would be the “year”. Friday AM I received by email the award recommendation list back from boss and he approved every single recommendation and even upped one of my employees award. I was totally excited and could hardly contain my joy and excitement but that I must do. I can’t tell them about what is coming their way but oh how I wanted to sooooo bad. It is not cash for them but something just as good. Some paid days off. They will have 1 full year to use the days as they choose and for my crew this is better than money, as it isn’t taxed, nor could it take them into another tax category come tax time. I promptly got into the civilian system where you enter the information for submitting awards for payout and although I had a minor issue, I got it fixed and got them all entered. The employees should see the results in 3 weeks on their pay stubs. They will all be so excited and it should wonders for the morale!! It certainly has helped mine morale! The problems for getting THAT excited and pumped that early in the morning, by the afternoon I was done. I was sooo tired but the end of the day finally arrived and so did the rains. It was off and one all the way home but I did fill up the Tahoe with gas and brought a bake at home pizza for supper.

I wanted to beat the rain at home and even though it had rained a bit at home, I was still determined to mow the yards. I was successful at that project too and beat the rain so my yard is looks better and is ready for the predicted additional rains over this 3 day weekend. There was other positive things that happened this week at work, but the best parts are down in writing here.

Owen is supposed to be down soon to stay here while his mom goes to work. Not sure how long she will work today, but it doesn’t matter. I have a plan to give him a few little chores to do for me and then I’ll give him some money. He is saving his money for something and think it’s a game system. It will help both of us out if he’s willing to do some stuff here.

Someone asked me about Jacob and me cooking his supper in an entry. The short explanation is this. He does fix his own breakfasts and lunches when he is at home. He can use the microwave to fix a limited list of foods and he makes sandwiches. He is NOT allowed to use my stove or oven when I’m not home. He doesn’t understand temperatures enough for me to give him that option. It is on my profile on my diary front page, but for those who don’t read those (I very seldom remember what goes with who) I will tell you that J has Downs Syndrome. He has lots of abilities but there are a few that cause me to know cooking on the stove without me here would worry me to death and I don’t want to EVER be sorry that I leave him home by himself on days he doesn’t work and I do. It took more faith than I thought I had when I started leaving him home on his days off but he did not want to stay with my dad nor did he want my dad to come down here. So with that clear, I knew he was capable to stay by himself. I wouldn’t like to stay with dad either. ;) And I don’t cook like one might think. I’m pretty lazy when it comes to cooking these days. I cooked full meals when Fred was still alive and that was one of the first things to be changed after his death.

A three day weekend ahead and no major projects although I do have some ideas. I have used the evenings to rip seam after seam after seam from an old pair of jeans for Jacob. I discovered that the inseams on a pair of jeans are also triple stitched, along with the outer seams. Geeze! If I have time quiet long enough I will begin to use the taken apart jean pieces to cut out new pieces for some new jeans for J. I’ve always wanted to try as his big men pants cost $55 or more a pair. If I could use the old jeans to make a pattern to use, I could save some $$$ on his clothes AND have some leeway on sizing. Other than normal chores, I am freewheeling it this weekend. Sister is supposed to come for a bit, but no idea when other than it probably won’t be a morning as she likes to sleep in on the weekends.

Have some laundry to put in the dryer and begin the process in the washer now. Hope everyone has a great weekend and I’ll try and post what the weekend has produced for this little corner of the farm.
