Nov 14th was the planning meeting for the county. We needed to go to get our survey approved since the split was under 5 acres. Unfortunately I couldn’t go because I was at the start of a really knarly sinus infection. Bestie and her hubby had to go alone.

The meeting was at 5:30pm. Bestie was the only woman there. I guess this is the county in TN with the lowest amount of immigration/ growth and they make it very clear that they want to keep it that way. 2 new subdivisions were approved so they were in a pissy mood. I don’t feel like I armed bestie with the information they needed to go alone. They were asked questions I would have known the answers to while they were there. Nothing detrimental. But the survey was approved, pending signatures.

Next steps are to pick up the soil work and take it back to TDEC office to get the Platt restrictions put on the survey. Then we I guess go back to the survey company and pick up the Platt with the restrictions on it (Platt restrictions are basically just verified soil work and those details put on the survey)… and then we have to obtain 4 different signatures of people in the county offices. Wild goose chase galore. We didn’t get to the signature part before so we really don’t know what we are in for or how long that portion will take.

The issue lies now that besties mortgage rate lock only has a 15 day extension from Nov 9th. There is no way we are going to be able to get all this done by then since all these offices are in different cities all over the county. We were originally told that once the survey is approved at the planning meeting on the 14th that they can close. But I guess everything has to be finalized and filed before they can close. It’s like this stupid dangling carrot has been in front of our faces. We shouldn’t have even bothered getting started with the mortgage until all this survey shit was taken care of. Rates are now at 7.7%. And they’re only going to go up.

Right before the planning meeting, besties hubby called the survey company and they sprung on us that a new version of the survey had to be taken to the meeting. So they had to drive to Sparta to the survey office before the meeting (another city over an hour away). That really pissed me off. I guess this “new version” of the survey shows unbuildable areas. Nobody explained to us why this needed to happen. So now the problem is, does the soil guy have the newest version of this survey? We were told that the environmental office needs the soil work on the survey that was approved at the meeting. Soil guy isn’t easy to get ahold of, but he said that he put the finished notes in the screen door of his office in Crossville which is an hour and 45 mins away from us. He might have put it on the most updated one, but he might not have gotten the message in time. Do we take that gamble and drive out there? It’s Thursday so you know this means the bonus family curse.

So you guessed it, we made the drive and it was on the wrong version of the survey. We left him a handwritten note and a copy of the most up to date one in case he didn’t have a physical copy. We are of course pissed off and defeated. We needed that soil work on the right platt, yesterday so we could proceed to TDEC today. We are running out of time. No one has even explained why this update needed to be made. Today I found out that the leader of the planning committee instructed this change. Sometimes the planning meeting makes these stupid new regulations. But we were told that “unbuildable” areas on the survey only mean no foundation NOT septic systems. Septic systems can be dug there. So now we wait for the soil guy to update his paperwork and we make the drive back to Crossville. We can’t do any of the other steps until we get the soil work.

Stay tuned for an update on my mortgage next. It’s gonna be an ugly one.
