Oh i’m gonna go outside the box here. I’m sure a lot of people would say stuff like singing the declaration of independence, woodstock, maybe Appomattox, I’m gonna say:

Portsmouth NH 1905, probably the beginning in my opinion of how the world is shaped today.

Whats so special about that place? Well. Its where the Treaty of Portsmouth was signed between Russia and Japan after the Russo-Japanese war.

Whats the Russo-Japanese war? It was a war that lasted about a year where Russia basically got their Pacific fleet annihilated, then got humiliated at many land and sea battles, then they tried to bring the BALTIC fleet over to help, and that fleet got destroyed at the penultimate battle at Tsushima.

The background was basically the two powers wanted control over Manchuria and Korea and the rising Power of Japan basically poking at the declining russia. It is important because its was the first time in history an Asian power defeated a European power (and like i said, it wasn’t even close)

Its such an interesting war to study.

But I digress. The treaty of Portsmouth ended the war. Teddy Roosevelt got a nobel peace prize over his mediation but you could argue that this was the launching point of how Russia is today, because shortly after that the Revolution of 1905 started (partially due to the fact they got humiliated) and while it didnt stick, it laid the seeds for the 1917 revolution, ergo the foundation of the soviet union, then stalin, then the cold war, the fall and now Putin. To see the treaty being negotiated and then signed basically began Russias downfall (And Japans rise) You could also consider this the first seed of World War 2 as well, it gave Japan the consent to annex Korea and then well.. we know where things go from there.

Russia has always been an autocratic society, but thinking about this prompt made me think about this really historic treaty and probably the first domino to be set for how the world is today.

There is your history fact for today. Its definitely an interesting war to study.

Keelah Se’lai.

Me.

Smol Edit: Apparently today is my 10 year proseaversary! Been on this place for 10 years. Holy carp.
