Week Two: The One Where the Salesman Lost His Voice in Still Listening to Spirit

Second week, I survived well. Wednesday was a chaos and cacophony of sound and confusion.
We were assaulted early and often for seats including requests from the tour broker via radio. Had I only to keep track of Greg and Eric's sales as well as monitor the radio, that would have been enough.
But, I am also expected to jump into the sales as well when people are not being attended to promptly. I must discuss this with Greg Monday. Despite my being occupied in selling, I must also somehow take care to mark down their sales, take the money for them, give pick up instructions, and so on.
Monday or Tuesday I quite pissed off Kara and maybe Eric by my intransigence in not having enough energy to stay another hour so they could have lunch together.
At 12:10, 10 minutes after the start of their lunch, I was urging Eric to go to lunch as we had a quiet bit. He said he couldn't because Kara had sent her helper out to lunch because it was 'getting late and she didn't want to make her help go later than her 1pm lunch."
I said "WHAT?" Actually I wanted to say "WTF? How stupid is that, couldn't she have asked how long you were going to be before you could take lunch?"
This I did not say.
However, at 12:20 I did say, "Eric you had better go to lunch. I absolutely cannot work another hour today. I just can't."
Eric told Kara and he went to lunch. I heard nothing from Kara, didn't go to the front of the store where the door to Fairytales is. Not to say a word. Not to apologize. Not to complain about her assuming I would stay an extra hour. An extra hour that wasn't necessary as tour sales were complete and I would be sitting merely to make up for her assuming she could change the lunch schedule without consulting me or even Eric.
Petty? Maybe. I am happy setting 'new' boundaries in my 'new' job. I worked 6 hours a day 2 days this week because it was absolutely necessary to get tours handled.
Anyway, I am still loving my job. Still doing it the best I can. Still going to suggest some alterations that may or may not happen. There is a mere 2 full weeks of ships left, then the 2 week wind down when some days we have ships and some days not.
The money I make is a blessing, pure and simple.
Later entry, I will discuss my plan to move our living area to the garage with some modifications of course, as inexpensively as possible. It occurred to me that both of us are unsteady enough on our feet it is not a good idea to risk the 17 stair steps up and down all winter.
It is doable this fall, but likely better planned for next summer for a move before the winter of 2015. Part of my plan is to sell my quilting trailer to get money for a 4 foot extension out from the large garage door to sort of a mudroom/sunroom instead of just walling in the garage door opening with windows and/or doors.
As long as we keep the square footage of the roof of this structure under 100 square feet, we won't even need a building permit. It is all up in the air now, but we will do lots of discussing and planning this winter.
I can return my living area to its original purpose which was to be my quilting room after we built a house ... And, some day, it could be an income producing apartment if need be..
What made me start thinking about this seriously is that this area is still not finished, the flooring is not ut down, and none of the kitchen cabinets are attached to the wall. So it will be like moving furniture rather than renovating
Anyhoo, blessed be, the sun has been out for a week and we are all dizzy from its effects.
Oh, and after all the talking we all did Wednesday, Eric truly lost his voice. He had a slight cold to begin with and Thursday and Friday he was nearly voiceless.
Imagine, relying on a salesman who can't talk! I, of course, did the sales those 2 days with a wee bit of whispering help from Eric.
blessed be!
