Apparently. It's called Tinder and my entire class have been using it pretty much non-stop.
As far as I can tell it's a "hot or not" thing that pulls up your photos from face book and people have the choice to like you or not. If you like someone and they like you back then it lets you know and gives you the option to message them.
It is, in fairness, not a terrible idea. It's also not a new one but it's the first time I've seen it executed on an app like this. It also appears to generate a lot of amusement.
Ok, I'm up for trying a new form of social media. One of my self improvement promises was to meet new people and this is as good a way of doing it as any, plus I get to see pretty girls appear on my phone in a socially acceptable way (mostly, there's been a couple of odd ones).
However, having downloaded this I've discovered that I'm not as enamoured with it as my group. I shall now, using the aid of google, simulate the experience of using Tinder for you. Please note all photos are from googles image results and not from the actual app.

GOOOOOOOOOSE!!!
Yeah. Pretty much. I am, of course, exaggerating for comedic effect. Oh, if you didn't get the joke, Grey Goose is a vodka. I'm reliably informed. By the internet. I really need to vet my jokes.
Anyhow, the point is that as an experiment I'm pretty interested in the idea but I seem to be swiping through at an impossibly fast rate. Now, you can tap on the people to get a couple more photos and even a short statement about them, written by the user. Fair enough, good idea. You like what you see? Let's see what they've got to say about themselves.
I kid you not, out of the 20 or so duck face profiles I bothered to click on, EVERY SINGLE ONE said words to this effect.
"You only live once".
Now, this statement bothered me on so many levels. Abandoning the obvious joke about reincarnation or the even more obvious one about Doctor Who, what am I supposed to take away from this cryptic message? I mean, it's obvious to pretty much everyone that you only live once. Why deliver it as the statement of your personality summary?
I'm really not joking about this. It's confusing the heck out of me. Tell you what, I'll do it right now. I'll click on the next 5 duck faces in my list and I'll write their profiles down. I'll discount blank ones.
Duck face 1: "Take life with a pinch of salt and a slice of lemon because you've only got the one." Ok now I actually quite like the tequila reference here but trust me, her spelling was abysmal.
Duck face 2: "Down to earth, quirky girl with a good sense of humour, looking for more than friends with benefits. Loves concert and gigs, intent on loving and living every minute". I'll admit this one is a little more of a stretch but she still gets that basic statement of intent in there. I'll give her bonus points for "quirky" though.
Duck face 3: "Live to travel. Love the life you live. Live the live you love. Bob Marley". Good quote, I'll say that.
Duck face 4: "Alreet". Ok, so one didn't. I'm still 3 for 4.
Duck face 5: "Loving life at the minute so if you fancy enjoying my company you best hope I swipe right, you only get one shot". Now, I'll admit that I'm not sure if she means we only get one shot at her liking us or at life but I'm going to call it close enough for a win.
Ok, so 4 out of 5 gang. I'll admit to editing these for spelling errors, grammar and punctuation but that's it. They are as close to the original as my brain will allow me to type.
So there we go. My review of Tinder. I think I'll keep playing with it as it is quite interesting. Socially acceptable voyeurism. I don't think I could meet anyone via it though. I'd be worried about their lips swelling up and suffocating them.
