Moving is expensive. in Life in General

- Public
Uhaul - $800
Gas for Uhaul Truck - $120
Movers - $660 + $600
Moving Supplies - $280
Carpet Cleaners - $270
Maid Services - $310
Tips for Movers/Cleaners - $300
Hardware Store Visit - $130
Total - $3470
And I’m not counting the cost of the new deposit and the fridge I had to buy for the new place (which totals to about $5000).
UHaul
UHaul is about to lose my business forever.
The morning after we drove to the new place, the movers arrived late because it was pouring and pouring outside. So we did out best to get the truck unloaded in time for the UHaul to be returned on time, but I was about 1 hour late. Yet I get a bill from UHaul charging me for another whole day of rental, which is total bullshit. I called the place and they said they understood and that it was fine. I took that to mean “Don’t worry we won’t charge you for a whole day because you’re an hour late” but nope… apparently not.
Also I stopped for gas just before returning the truck. I had a little over half a tank and I needed to get it closer to 3/4 of a tank, according to the rental paper I had. It estimated that 12 gallons of fuel would be enough, so about 1 mile before the UHaul place I stopped for some gas. It basically nailed it, the meter was right on the line where it started when I rented it.
But nope, when I get my receipt they claimed it was barely above half a tank… the same place where I had it when I first pulled into the station. They charged me 60 dollars for 7 gallons of gas.
Like no way was it 7 gallons short… like no shot in hell. Like, if they charged me 1 or 2 gallons, I’d find that pretty petty and nitpicky, but I’d accept it. But nah, not 7 gallons. I opened up a dispute with UHaul and I plan to be a total bitch until they reverse these extra charges.
So even if I do rent with UHaul again in the future, I will sit there and watch them read the meter and wait for my receipt.
Fridge
Another cool thing that happened was my fridge was delivered with two large dents in the front. Like, the fridge wasn’t completely boxed up, it only had a clear wrap and styrofoam on the edges. Someone should have seen that before loading it onto the truck. They are not subtle dents either, they’re HUGE.
Well luckily this fridge has replaceable panels so instead of rejecting the fridge and waiting for a new one to be delivered (which would suck bc we’d have to keep letting our food spoil), we were able to accept the fridge and let Best Buy order new panels to be installed. So the install guys take some photos of the damage and I call the next morning to schedule the repair.
A week goes by and the guy finally arrives. I’m like “sweet I finally can stop looking at these horrible dents.
NOPE.
These dummies just sent out a dude to take more photos and be like “yeah that’s broken, guess we’ll need new parts”
What part of the previous correspondence was unclear? You already had photos of the damage and a report from the delivery people..... did you really need to make me wait a week just for someone to come out and confirm what you already knew?!?!
So now we get to wait another week for them to order parts and send someone out. But with my luck, the next appointment will just be another “check in” lol.
But good news, the fridge dropped price by 100 dollars and I’m still within my return period. Pro-tip, if you buy something from best buy and it price drops in your return period, they’ll refund you the difference. Considering how much money I spent on this move, you bet your ass I’m about to go get that money back.
Spotify
I really really tried. I tried so hard to like YouTube music.
So I basically only watch YouTube. I never watch TV or anything, just YouTube. I don’t even watch that much TikTok anymore. And with the pandemic keeping me home more often, I decided to splurge for premium YouTube to drop the ads. (and since then I have gotten the family plan so I can let Jessica and my parents have ad-free YouTube as well)
Well you get YouTube music included with premium and about a year ago I thought “well damn I ain’t paying for Spotify if I already have access to this other service”. But let me tell you, if you like Spotify’s music recommendation algorithm.... don’t swap.
YouTube music works really well if you already know exactly what you want to listen to. But the second you try and let it recommend stuff, it only recommends what’s popular on the app.
And how do I say this..... I think.... I think YouTube Music’s demographic is very Hispanic heavy haha. Like of course I ain’t got nothing against Hispanic music, but it just ain’t my cup of tea but if you check the most popular songs on the app it’s basically ALL Hispanic music all of the time.
And if it’s not that, it’s recommending me really really old music, like back from the early 90’s. It’s like “Hey you’re old, here’s some old music.”
So the other day I finally got fed up and opened Spotify on my phone. And even with the ads, it was immediately better. But luckily Spotify has a duo service now for people living in one home (thank you Netflix for starting this trend of address verification bullshit lol)
House
The house is much nicer than our old place, but it is in one of those cookie cutter neighborhoods where all the houses look basically identical. Also there are zero trees anywhere since everything here is brand new. It’s really eerie looking, but luckly I’m a hermit and just sit at home all the time anyway so it doesn’t really affect me too much.
What’s weird is I’ve lived in Austin and Dallas, which are two of the best cities to live in for internet choices. Yet here, in fucking Bixby Oklahoma, this house actually has two choices in fiber internet haha.
When we first moved in, I thought the only option was Cox. And let me tell you, they’re charging and arm and a leg for their internet. I had gigabit unlimited in Dallas and it was about 80 bucks a month. Cox legitimately wants $170 for the same service here… over twice as much. So I opted for the 100/100 instead with a data cap, which is $50/month and no 24 month agreement. I wasn’t super happy about it but it was better than wasting so much money on gigabit which I wouldn’t even need most of the time.
But I swore I saw two fiber boxes outside when we first toured the home. Yet AT&T claimed they didn’t serve the area. Well luckily when I called them again to get more answers, the tech was super nice and found out that it’s from a local internet company called BTC. And guess what, they have the same services for half the cost of Cox. BYE COX NICE KNOWIN YA.
lol. It’s funny, I did the same thing when we first moved to Dallas. I thought the only internet choice was Spectrum cable which was a bummer but then one day I went outside and saw the fiber hookup and found out it was serviced by Frontier. So I drove up to Spectrum and gave them their shitty cable modem and peaced out.
I wish there was an easier way to find out all the services you can choose from but hopefully the next time we move will be the last. Because we are VERY interested in buying a home after this. I know the market sucks and all, but renting and moving so many times is expensive as a motherfucker so it may be worth it to just take a fat hit on a mortgage.
Anyway, that’s all for now. I know I just ramble about random shit a lot that doesn’t matter. Thanks for sticking around anyway. (I think Alicia you’re the only one who reads sometimes lol).

Oh no moving horror stories! I am about to move and this is my nightmare. It's awful that you had to deal with all of that
