Move Out

We finally have a house lined up! It’s a 4 bed 2 bath house. I’m a little hesitant on getting a house that big just for the two of us, but Jessica really wants the extra space so I’m willing to give it a shot for a while.

The house we are in currently is the first rental home we’ve ever had, and I had no idea how much was involved with moving out. With an apartment, as long as you don’t leave the it completely wrecked, you can just clean it up and leave. But with a rental home it seems pretty standard that you have to have it professionally cleaned/carpet cleaned/lanscaped and leave receipts or you risk losing your deposit.

And that’s all fine and good but I wish there was an option to clean it ourselves. Just have someone come check on the place after and make sure I did a good job. I know how to do basic landscaping and how to rent a carpet cleaner.

And the place we are about to rent has the same stipulations… it must be professionally cleaned upon move out. So that’s a good thing to note next time we rent a place. All of this stuff is adding up quickly so I’ll keep it all in mind.

Real Estate

I will say… F__K everyone who works in real estate. All of em… scum and scammy pieces of s__t.

The lady who was helping us secure this place was playing serious games and I was getting real close to sick of it. It’s not different than buying a car.... you have to really be willing to walk away from the deal before they budge an inch.

They were asking us to nearly double our deposit (which was already really really high) because my credit wasn’t perfect. Listen I ain’t got perfect credit or anything, but it ain’t BAD. I make my payments on time, I don’t have any collections. The only thing hurting me is my student loan debt and short credit history (because apparently 15 years of credit history isn’t long enough… jesus christ).

So anyway I told them I couldn’t do that, it was too much money. They countered with “Well you can pay the deposit in installments if that helps.” No. I don’t want you having more of my money than you need to have, because I know how landlords will do anything to keep deposits, so the less money of mine you have in an “escrow”, the better.

So I reach out to my dad who has a credit score over 800 and asked him to cosign. He was kind enough to agree so after some back and forth with the real estate people they agreed to keep the deposit the same.

But then the next game started. They wanted us to start the the lease immediately, like THAT day. Um.... what? You want me to pay for an empty house for 3 weeks for.... no reason at all? They’re like “well it’s pretty common for there to be overlap between two places.” I don’t care.... I’m not doing that. It’s basically like throwing over a thousand dollars out the window. I told them when I wanted the lease to start and they basically refused saying “well we have another tenant who’s willing to move in right now” and I said “okay, give it to them that’s fine I can find another place to rent I have time.”

Of course… they call back immediately and say “The owner has decided to go with another tenant” and I’m like “okay thanks for trying anyway” and then she just keeps talking and talking and I was so close to hanging up and she says “you want me to talk to the owner again” and I literally say “Do what you want, but I’m not budging I’m moving in this day, or no deal”

Of course, she calls back 10 minutes later and says the owner agrees.

F__k the hell off, I knew there was no other interested party. You’re just playing games and I got no patience for that crap.

All of this would put a bad taste in my mouth, but they’re all like this so honestly better to go with the s__tty people I know than the people I don’t.

So anyway we got the lease signed haha. I’ll update again once we get there on Thursday!
