One.

It’s rear you can say it’s good news when a aircraft crashes, but that happened here yesterday at an air display at RNAS Culdrose, during the display by a Hawker Sea Fury white smoke was seen coming from the engine, the pilot began flying the Sea Fury to a landing; as the plane neared the ground. It was just a few feet from the ground as the left wheel came down, the at the last moment the right wheel was down, from the footage on line it looked as if the right wheel wasn’t locked in the down position, as the Sea Fury touched down the right wheel folded, sending the vintage aircraft on to the grass when the left was forced down allowing the plane to skid to a holt.

Once the Sea Fury was still the canopy was pushed back and the pilot was out, apart from the damage to the engine which we couldn’t see, the propeller blades were bent back. From what I’ve read about the fast fighter aircraft of WW2, white smoke is the coolant escaping, it was said the Merlin’s in the Mustang P51 D’s would seize within 3 to 5 seconds, and without power from the engine it would be doubtful that the undercarriage could fully lock down.

I’m sure the Sea Fury will be repaired to at lest display slandered, if not flight worthiness, I feel we were are getting to a time to debate how often and how these aircraft are displayed, I think it is wonderful to see these historic aircraft flying, lose the view remaining aircraft of that era; and tragic to lose a pilot – when the pilot walks away from a crash it’s all ways good news.

Two.

Tonight the Glasgow Commonwealth came to an end, and we are told the home countries have had the best results ever, and brings Australia’s runs of topping the medal table over the last twenty years, not that they were far behind England; I think our sports are still ridding high after the 2012 Olympics.

Until tonight I didn’t know where the next games would be, and when I did I was puzzled, I thought Gold Coast was an area on the east coast, so now I know there is a city in south-eastern Queensland, and the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games will open on the 4th April 2018. Will that be late summer or early autumn, what ever to looks warmer than our summers; if I get there it would be June and July – or if pushed May or August – September …
