At a time like this, in my past, I would have said…
“Oh woe is me. Oh woe is me.”
Well, I guess I’ve gotten used to shit just going wrong because when I look at the overall picture, I shouldn’t really sweat.
Today, for example, well…it didn’t go to great.
We got up this morning and loaded the U-Haul truck. As we finished loading it, Rupert gone to shut the back door.
Well, guess what? The backdoor was STUCK. The latch has gotten stuck in between to screws, and we couldn’t get it out no matter how hard we tried.
So, we had to unload the truck and take it about to the U-Haul hub Rupert rented it from.
We were only charged $145 so it wasn’t too bad, but it really put a dent in our plans. The extra room would have served me well in packing the rest of my books and such easier.
Oh well.
We still traveled down because we had to take care of turning on the water, and we had to let the Lowe’s delivers in so they could install our washer and dryer.
When we arrived to the office where we the property owners are actually at (one plus…I can walk down there and drop off our rent every month…it is right down the street from us), we asked about when the locks will be installed.
Our property manager told us that they will be installed on Monday. Rupert asked about some other things, and before we went to our rental to wait for the Lowe delivers, I went back and asked about having the combination change.
Well, the property manager got a little snippy with me about it near the end of the conversation. It probably was the way I asked which I didn’t mean for it to come out that way…
But basically, I said how did the cleaner get into our rental. She said that she gave her the combination to get in.
Then, I asked…how do you change the combination?
We already have stuff moved in there, and I don’t want it to be disturbed. Naturally, I just don’t trust people around my stuff, and that’s how I’ve always been, BUT I didn’t let her know that.
She basically said that the cleaner cleans all their rentals…and that she trusts her if that helped.
Once she started getting defensive, I said that is cool…that’s fine…we left.
I am not going to apologize for being who I am and asking if my belongings are secure. First off, Rupert and I are fairly relative to this neighborhood. I want to make sure I take all precautions and such.
And I guess the reason why I asked was because…well, the cleaner, she did not do a good job with cleaning.
She cleaned it below decency, but again, we’ve been spoiled. Even the older places we’ve rented from, like apartment, they were clean to the max.
When we got there, the Lowe’s guys were an hour early. Both of the fellas were super nice and installed our washer and dryer perfectly.
I suppose due to the property manager thinking we were going to bitch (Trust me, I ain’t going to bitch about shit because I’ve grown out of that, Yo), she actually sent the contractor over there to replace the locks.
While locksmith was doing that, we were picking trash up from the yard. Yeah, I know. I know. And we put that on the list, but no one did anything about it. So, we had to do it.
As I said, we will also have to clean the house again.
Whew wee…
After we were done for the rental for today, I had to call the post office and make sure our mail would be delivered because whoever was there last time…the house was foreclosed on. So, the mail was no longer in any type of service.
Our mail service should be activated now, and we should get our mail.
The only problem I have is that our mailbox is next to someone else’s. I had that. I wished that it was on our property…I don’t know why they couldn’t put the box where it was.
It was a slightly rough day today…but it is coming together. The most stressful part was the U-Haul not shutting…but it could have been worse. We could have had every square inch of that truck packed…and then, we had to unpack it. Oh my, that would have been the worse ever.
Anyway, Rupert is being nice for school and let me pick two of the rooms…for my book and magazine collection and my office.
We still got more shit to do, and I got to ride the waves at work because the first years (our new graduate students) are coming to us the week after next. I took off Monday and Tuesday to finish off the move…
I am going to be so tired. Whew wee….
I just need a surge of energy…and once we get everything move and the new house packed…we will be great.
Oh my, oh my!
