I was a starting high school senior in 1970, and my grandfather had and did not survive aneurism surgery. He was 78 at the time, a tough ol bird, but life and our "time" is what it is.

My Aunt Arlene, and my grandmother Blanche still lived in the house and life goes on. Blanche is getting up in years, and the old driving privileges need to be revoked. They were to some extent, or so they thought.

I am railroading at the time this occurred. I am still mid to late 20's, I keep in touch with my parents. The railroad owns me, but I try to stay current.

My mother owned a hair salon. In fact, she owned several, but lets keep on topic. Her main salon was in Wheatridge, 44th avenue and Wadsworth Blvd. Blanche has a hair appointment this one day, and the story unfolds.

Blanche shows up... on time. "Where's Delores?" Delores is her middle daughter. "She dropped me off, early, we had donuts at Winchell's". "okay".

Hair done ...my mom never charged. Blanche says lemme call Delores, and I'll get picked up. She uses the phone , no she faked it. "Delores gonna pick you up". "Yeah , we'll meet at Winchell's in 30 minutes, I'll go there". "okay see ya next week". The plot thickens....and Blanche ?

We drove the 65 Dodge Camper Special to the shop. Without a license, and at 4' 9'' or 5 foot she could barely see over the steering wheel. She is on her way back home. LOL, yeah scary but this is 1975-1977... who knew.

Another customer, came in and said was "Older Mrs Terry in today?" "Yes" was the reply. "Well I saw her in this big Pick Up Truck, and barely seeing over the steering wheel". The rebel Blanche, is heading home. Alarms are going off.

My mother calls Delores. "Did you drop off and pick up Blanche?" "No, I am waiting for her call". "I think she has taken the truck..and is on the way home".
Silence...
"I'll head to the house".

Blanche shows up 30 minutes later, Drives that ol Camper Special into the Driveway. Delores is there in the house waiting. Blanche, she is busted,

God Bless ol Blanche, was it right no. Thank God no one was hurt or injured .
Blanche died at 80 years of age, a few months before I got married in 1982 .
She was a character..
