Fireworks over the lake in At the foot of the hill

We live across a small lake from one of the Metro's loveliest parks. If you remember the Columbine High School incident, you heard of Clement Park. The school is on the other end of the park from the lake. Anyhow, they always have a festival in the park to mark Independence Day. This happened yesterday. The climax is an impressive fireworks display.

Our son, Mike and his wife, Jeri came over about seven p.m. They brought us dinner. At that time it was threatening with wind and dark clouds and a few sprinkles so we ate inside instead of on the deck. We had a nice visit, hearing about all the trips they've been on this summer and oohing and aahing over the gifts Jeri brought us from her Mediterranean cruise.

When the time came, we gathered up our "baseball" chairs and headed down to our "back yard" that abuts the walking path around the lake and joined a few thousand of our closest friend enjoying the now calm and clear air, just in time for the big show. We had a perfect view of the display. When it was over, we just sat there until the crowd had disassembled. They came upstairs for a nightcap while the traffic crawled out of the neighborhood. In bed, asleep by eleven.

We will be getting together with them again, either today or tomorrow, for the traditional barbeque.
