I knew today that I was going to struggle in my physics class. I didn’t struggle too hard but I was very intimidated. I missed the last class which was our second class where we started the unit. It isn’t a math class, I keep having to remind myself of that. It is math heavy though and I am so glad that I took that math course last semester.

I’m slow to get there but I get there with these formulas. They are simple but not easy because we have to do some algebra to plug in the variables. That is where I struggle. I was also lost on some of the concepts because I did not have those notes. My teacher sent me a picture of his notes but I could not read them. I got the notes from a classmate and just went through them and I am up to speed. Tomorrow I will start making my summary cards and reach out to the math tutor so she can help me with getting some algebra practice in.

Everybody in the class is so young and fresh out of high school. They are not out of touch with this stuff at all and I’m not going to let myself compare myself. I’m sure there are others just as intimidated and anxious as I am.

I was feeling ready to give up but I will regret it. I have nothing to lose. I could have taken a semester off while I waited for the chemistry one but I didn’t want to fall out of touch. I am finding a passion for math that I never had before, even though I am not a natural at it. I know it is a developable skill. It is the principles behind it all that I find alluring.

Anyway, it’s just high school. This time next year I will be looking into post-secondary which is a scary thought. I can’t think too big or I will overwhelm myself. I want to get a better grade in Physics than I did with my last course which was the first one I had in twenty years.

The math tutor is the math teacher I had. She asked me how physics was going and I said that it was intimidating. She told me that I will be fine because I am a great student. She’s a big fan of mine, I know that. I beat myself up a lot because I didn’t feel that I was that disciplined but I performed well with my notes and studying. Then again in class. I will just need to get a lot of practice in on my time off which I have plenty of. Time off that is.
