First Day Was Not The Moment in Current Events

I had my first physics class yesterday and don’t have a good feeling about it. My first impression of my teacher is not so good. He doesn’t seem to be very structured. Perhaps I was spoiled by my last teacher but his teaching style was rough. It wasn’t even a style he was clearly winging it. I didn’t expect to receive any textbooks but I was expecting some printed handouts as we get into new units. He said that we will but they will just be practice questions. We will have a worksheet of all of the mathematical formulas we will be using, at least. With that said I was still expecting him to be writing on the board for us to take notes. Not so much.
He wants us to ease into this course because it is adult education and some of us are not in touch with it anymore. We started with practicing some algebra. He started writing down expressions but he wasn’t clear about what we were doing. At least, why we were doing it. He wanted us to practice isolating variables with reverse operations. I had to raise my hand to clarify that. We all started to get somewhere after that.
He did almost all of the explaining verbally which was all over the place. I feel bad for judging him because he’s a nice guy but he isn’t structured at all. I suspect that I will be relearning everything from the internet after every class. I wouldn’t have guessed that he has been doing this for 15 years.
With my last teacher, we had handouts for each unit. They contained everything that we needed to know about each lesson and she would use the board to show us examples and get us to do practice questions with her. My new teacher had a piece of paper with his scribbles on it and he was going off of that.
Like, I came home with nothing. I have nothing to study with.
Tomorrow is our second class and we will start to get into the material, I hope. It isn’t a math class, it’s physics. I absolutely do appreciate the algebra practice because I am indeed out of touch.
We did an icebreaker in which we had to say our names and explain a few things about ourselves. I am the oldest in the class by a lot. Everybody is fresh out of high school. They’re giving gen z vibes when I want grown adult energy. I think I’m speaking gen z there.
Anyway, I’m hoping tomorrow is a better day for physics. To be fair, at the last second, they changed rooms on us. He was fighting with the smartboard the whole time.
