If you are not interested in the World Cup you may have missed the latest bit of controversy - the Uruguayan star soccer player Suarez has been cited for biting an opponent. The ref missed it - but video evidence shows the incident, and there are teeth marks on the Italian's shoulder. Suarez has form in this area. He has been suspended twice for biting an opponent in club games - but this time he is claiming the Italian's shoulder hit his mouth - a bit like saying I swung my fist and his chin moved to connect with it.

Of course, the Uruguayans claim a conspiracy against him because he is so good (he did score two goals against England to put them out) - and he did nothing wrong. Actually the most interesting aspect will be the decision of FIFA, the governing body, who have to decide, Let's say that FIFA rarely show any moral outlook or courage - it has been mired in corruption. Do they want to lose one of the key stars of the competition? I wonder how they will get out of this - and what about the sponsors.

EDIT He has been found guilty and suspended for nine international matches, no football related activities for four months so cannot play for his club Liverpool until November - and fined £65000

If this took place in a kid's playground there would have been summary retribution - if it took place in the street there would be criminal charges. Oh did I mention the soccer at all??

Mean while we went to a wonderful piano recital in the city yesterday lunchtime - what a joy to listen to a pianist at the top of his game - effortless and balanced. And we bought a blanket from TKMaxx - kingsize, for next winter - and great to bring back on the train -could not turn up the bargain - as they - once it's gone it's gone!.

And how true is this? alt text
