My quote here is -= Perfect is the enemy of good.
I don't know who said it.... Well now I do sort of. It was Voltaire.
Here's what wiki says. Sometimes I love what wiki says. And this is one of the times.

**Perfect is the enemy of good is an aphorism or proverb meaning that insisting on perfection often results in no improvement at all. The phrase is commonly attributed to Voltaire whose moral poem, La Bégueule, starts: “ Dans ses écrits, un sage Italien Dit que le mieux est l'ennemi du bien.
(In his writings, a wise Italian says that the best is the enemy of the good) ”
Aristotle, Confucius and other classical philosophers propounded the principle of the golden mean which counsels against extremism in general. The Pareto principle or 80–20 rule explains this numerically. For example, it commonly takes 20% of the full time to complete 80% of a task while to complete the last 20% of a task takes 80% of the effort
.* Achieving absolute perfection may be impossible and so, as increasing effort results in diminishing returns, further activity becomes increasingly inefficient. *
Watson-Watt, who developed early warning radar in Britain to counter the rapid growth of the Luftwaffe, propounded a "cult of the imperfect", which he stated as "Give them the third best to go on with; the second best comes too late, the best never comes."
Economists such as George Stigler say that "If you never miss a plane, you're spending too much time at the airport.**

What brought this on - well aside from the normal onslaught of life - onslaught is one of those words of which my dad would say -= if you can't spell it use an easier word - wow these parentheses are nesting up a storm - by the way the eagle nest in empty and boy is that sad - here's the link if you can stand it: http://www.ustream.tv/decoraheagles.
New sentence - well continuation of the beginning of the last one - is changing my icon here. I don't remember what I started here with but I had the fancy street light against the blue sky for quite a while. I kind of liked it. It was identifiable. Well it wasn't perfect though. It was a little off center. And that always bothered me.
So when Terry the rose started blooming I put her up there as my icon. But she looked a little muddy. She could have been a pink blob of anything. So today I went in and went looking to change my icon again.
First I used the green fern picture - which was basically a textured picture of green ferns - yeah, that's what it was. I liked it ok, but I could not find a background that complimented it. I searched through the themes and I could not find one with green accents. All the while I did that, I was thinking this is totally nuts because even if I find the 'perfect' background to compliment my green ferns, I'll be the only person who sees it - so what's the big deal?
Well it turns out I like my icon to kind of match my layout. So what could I do? I could go back to the light post - that was blue and a lot of the backgrounds have blue accents and that was what I wanted. But where the hell is the light post photo anymore? I remember taking it at the park in town when the pond was just icing over last fall. I'm too lazy to go looking for it again.
So instead I used a picture of a blue iris I took a week or so ago. It's blue and even kind of pointy like the light post but it's not quite right either. There is too much empty space at the top. It needs to be adjusted up a little.
I could go find the photo - since it's only a couple weeks old I can find it sort of easily - and crop the top off it and then upload it again so see if the flower centers up and down more to my liking.
But I won't.
Perfect is the enemy of good. And if you never miss a plane you're spending too much time in airports.
Here's the photo with too much top on it.
BTW, today is the longest day of the year. Don't be like Daisy and always wait for it then miss it.
I want to write about people I miss. The woman from Finland who would write about the big bon fires to celebrate the longest day of the year. The woman who put a GPS thingie on her cat and showed where he traveled in their neighborhood. The woman who took fabulous trips and fabulous photos on her fabulous trips. The woman who took an interest in me.
Just looked up Bloomsday the Joycean holiday. I was thinking that was today too, but it's June 16. So now like Daisy I have missed that day.
Days are like that though. All good. We need to pay attention to them all.
