Well my title was meant to resemble the "I'm on a boat" song, but doesn't really work. Good news is, I'm FINALLY back at a gym!! WAHOOOOO!!!
This, once again, hasn't been an easy decision. I've been researching for months, and it's been months since I've been at a proper gym. Working out at home has been getting me by, but there's only so much I can do here, and I'm never motivated enough in my own home.
The incentive was a pamphlet sent out by Snap Fitness above my work, offering 4 weeks free and no joining fee. I kinda wanted to join there as well because a few of my workmates go there and it is convenient for work. I worked out the calculations and it worked out to be around $570 for 12 months, going on the 'corporate' fee as my work is part of the complex.
However. I didn't end up joining Snap. I went back to my old gym and explained to the manager there that I'd been away for a few months (lol) and was wondering what he could offer me to rejoin. He said to me, "Tell you what I'll do. I'll give you two months free for $549." The 12-month price has gone up since last year, when it was $499. 14 months of gym for $549? So that worked out at around $9.80 per week, compared to the $10.95 per week Snap would be, plus the card fee ($59). So my options: $628.40 for 13 months (1 month free) including card fee (Snap) And $549 for 14 months (2 months free) (Jetts) I couldn't say no, really.
Fuck, I feel so good being back at my gym! The gym I was used to also. I also looked at the Snap gym and photos and it just didn't appeal to me! It really didn't. My workmate has been trying to convince me to join for ages and claims he used to get claustrophobic at my gym (like.. what?? My gym is huge!) but my other workmate who goes there claims that his gym is small, so I was right. Snap even advertise themselves as a 'State of the art, compact gym." COMPACT.
So, I am a little disappointed that I won't be able to join my workmates when they work out after work. I got called in tonight, and I accepted the shift because, well, I now need to pay off a gym membership haha. But at least this payment I consider an investment.
On the pro-side, I did save myself a bit of money in the long-run. I know that I am best when I work out on my own time also. It did concern me a little that if I joined Snap, Marty would constantly be challenging me, like a typical straight gym-junkie guy has the habit of doing haha.
I did get the nice surprise of seeing Rhys in his gym gear after our shift ended tonight. DAMN boy. Maybe I did make the wrong decision after all haha!
So they went to do their workout upstairs, and I went to my gym, which is on the way home (another slight perk I guess). I did a decent workout, but it was pretty tame standards from what I used to do. I figured I'd ease myself back into it by lowering the weight limits slightly, and I'm glad I did because even that is damn hard. Hopefully I'll work my way back up to what I was doing in little time at all.
Yay, so exciting! I finally have my hobby back!
