He was pretty cool. I recognized him walking toward me, and he extended his hand. I shook his hand, then leaned in and gave him a hug, "I do hugs", I said.
He looked well. It's been nearly 15 years since I last saw the guy. His age was younger than the amount of time I'd seen him in!
We went to The Coffee Club down by the river, so we'd have the nice views. I was only there around 16 hours earlier catching my ferry (see favs only entry) :)
He's 26 now, so 4 years younger than me, which means he must have been 11 the last time I saw him!
He seems to have his life quite together and has exciting long-term goals. He talks a lot, so it was good to just sit and listen. It was also nice of him to shout me a mixed-berry smoothie.
We spoke a bit about what had been happening in our lives, moreso him talking. How do I just explain 15 years in about a half-hour catch-up? Haha.
From what I gathered, he struggles a little bit internally with the whole gay thing. I can understand that. He seemed a little taken aback at how anti-religious I am these days, compared to the person I used to be. He still occasionally goes to church, and said being gay is only a small part of his life. True! I told him my views on it, that I basically got to a point in my life where I decided I needed to completely be myself and made a decision, and I also told him about the infamous minister and his wife "gay-demon" exorcism nonsense back when I was 19/20 haha.
"I laughed at it then, and I still laugh at it now."
He told me that his brother and sister are both married with kids. When he was telling me about Fiona (his sister), he goes, "Is that weird for you to hear that?" I burst out laughing! So, my ex-girlfriend when I was 15 is now married and has a kid? Makes sense to me! Good on her :) I'm sure she's a wonderful wife and mother, as clearly she has her life and I have mine. Ours was such a lame childhood relationship anyway, and it was certainly nothing serious for me. I'm just glad I'm not living a lie. I guess Shaun was just being polite.
He's moving to London very soon, so it was cool of him to want to catch up. It seems like he's going there to find himself, and I think he'll do fine. He has a good head on his shoulders and seems to make friends easily. He wants to be a fund manager and have at least $10 Million when he retires. So, he'll make a good catch for some English lad :)
He asked what my long-term goals were, and well, I didn't really have any haha! I told him I'd always been pretty spontaneous and I didn't really know. Yeah, I'm sure that's the answer this go-getter wanted to hear! HA! Either way, he was respectful and said he can understand that.
Even though I last saw him when he was a kid, there's still mini-traits I remember in him from all the way back then. Crazy right?
We're very different people, but it was a nice catch-up. We parted ways, gave each other a hug and I wished him the best of luck with his new adventure.
I went and just sat in the park for a bit after, as I was meant to be going to the movies with Alex, until I realized the movie doesn't actually come out until this Thursday - doh! So we're gonna go on Thursday night now. It was nice to just sit there in the cool night air.
Post Office Square snappy.
Man, I looked a bit tired haha!
