I think I have a unhealthy addiction to Kaiju Films - and not just cause of Pacific Rim. When Godzilla came over here in 1998 I did like that movie, I know its like a fan hated movie but who cares - are you telling me its worse then anything mid-Showa era of Godzilla? Ha, you are so wrong. I actually picked up the infamous Godzilla vs. Megalon on VHS and had the chance to see Godzilla 2000 in theaters. Before that I'd always been able to catch the midnight movies on the SPACE Channel. So I got to see a lot of the classics, even had a stint with Star Trek (not a fan though, only like Voyager).
These days, I'm making up for lost time by picking up all these great movies on BluRay and DVD. I already got all Gamera films except for the newest one. And they are glorious. There is nothing like watching Gamera and the classic Godzilla films. I've only rarely been disappointed with the movies I go after (with Rodan being just plain boring and uninteresting for these times). Pacific Rim was good but its no match for the caliber of the original movies - which have so much creativity and originality that it is a little unbelievable.
The only sad thing is I don't really know many people who like this stuff or who would sit through anything after hearing the concept of some of these things. Man, I'd kill to see Godzilla 2014 in theaters again - which I will be! So I guess killing isn't needed.
