In bed.

She would smile in her sleep, as I was awake. The light from my alarm clock on that pretty face. I would reach across and put my hand on her back to feel her heartbeat.

She’d sigh and roll over then roll over again and pull me close. Me awake the whole time.

In the morning I would find her laying with her head on my chest. One time I was worried because she was so still and quiet.

“Baby, are you okay?”

She moved and said “just listening to your heart.”

I will never find that kind of profound love again.
