a downpour is fine
give it a few minutes
it will wear itself out

a sprinkling can be
kind of refreshing
reminding you why
it’s so nice
to be dry

but there’s nothing
quite as gloomy as a
steady rainstorm
the kind that feels
as if it might just
never end at all

you can hide from
a hurricane’s wrath
but slow-rising floods
the longer you hide
the worse it gets

and that’s how it feels
today
