a downpour is fine
give it a few minutes
it will wear itself out
a sprinkling can be
kind of refreshing
reminding you why
it’s so nice
to be dry
but there’s nothing
quite as gloomy as a
steady rainstorm
the kind that feels
as if it might just
never end at all
you can hide from
a hurricane’s wrath
but slow-rising floods
the longer you hide
the worse it gets
and that’s how it feels
today

rain
a gift, a curse
depending on circumstances
the heavy kind takes my internet away
the lingering kind floods my basement
and makes my phone noisy and useless
too much rain makes the bend in the creek
wider and wider into the field in front of the house
too little rain does not even want to be spoken of....
