I can’t stop watching this video. There has always been something about the 60s and 70s that dominated my thoughts growing up, and often in adulthood. I think I figured it out. It’s like looking into the future, in reverse. Here are these people, many of which I know, in a time and place in which I did not yet exist. Like a window into a world that existed while I was in the same void pre-birth I’ll certainly return to post-death. It’s so cold and beautiful and remote. Twists my guts in a not wholly unpleasant fashion. That smell of army green, tobacco, old newspapers. Acrid odors. Flowers. Cutting winter winds and rotten wood. Then, long after, when I existed with senses to draw the world with direct data- my dad, shirtless, flipping bacon with a fork to a transistor radio on the windowsill in 1986 with the overgrown green neighborhood shining in through the kitchen window on the 1940s yellow painted walls.
