"At least the semester is over..." in My life

He should know I hate it when he says that! I care more about HOW the semester ends that THAT it ends. He should know that I hate it because I have said that to him so many times.

We went to marriage preparation with this mentor couple yesterday. It got brought up how I don’t feel supported by him sometimes and he got taken a little aback. Of course he would be, I knew it. He just doesn’t remember things that he doesn’t like to hear. That makes it life easier for him, I guess. Not a bad thing. It’s fine, he got a lot of good qualities and he loves me… I just need one more thing that he can’t provide so instead of keep asking that from him, I just have to learn to deal with it myself. Fair is fair.

Anyway, so he told me afterwards: “But if there’s anything really serious you would tell me, right?” I said “Depends on what I think your reaction would be.” Well it happens like that. He would say, You can tell me anything. And when I say certain things it becomes too much for him. Annoying. I would rather he says I just don’t want to hear it, please don’t talk about it. At least that’s more honest.

And it’s fine. I think it’s a mistake to expect your spouse to be 100% meeting your needs. They can be your biggest supporter but not 100%. Never. Expecting so much would just lead to resentment I think. One just have to realize when they’ve done their best in some area and it’s just not enough, then oh well.

And certain things we just have to agree to disagree. Like our very different feelings about certain friends of his.
