They will do anything for the unborn, but once you're born, you're on your own (George Carlin) in Talk Radio

Perverse of me when terrible news drops, I get hope that more people will care strongly and take action. I’m preparing for and supporting various responses to the news about Roe vs Wade.
Comrades want me to convey our message of feminist socialism and bodily autonomy. We’ve actually been doing this for awhile so I feel prepared. I focused a lot on including queer and trans liberation. IE shoutouts to all with uteruses: women, enbies, anyone at who the forced-birth camp takes aim.
From my POV advocates for liberty have changed from “pro-choice” to “pro-abortion”. TLDR, it’s a good direction.
It’s an intentional departure from what I remember in the 90s: “abortions should be safe, legal, and rare” - Mr. Clinton. His statement I can technically agree with. In practice I believe it has gone wrong. Pro-choice is not realistic. Pro-choice has not done enough to reduce stigma and misogyny for those who need and choose abortions.
So… I haven’t needed an abortion. I am both careful and lucky to keep it that way. I still believe it is better if people don’t need abortions… but that’s not a very productive take to have. It is why I put so much energy into promoting contraception, though (which I still believe is a good ministry)
Recently I have been unraveling some of my old assumptions behind the abortion issue. There are many. I won’t be able to write of most of them.
Long ago, I assumed: a rapist who risks leaving evidence in a pregnancy, also during the victim’s ovulation, would be uncommon. Unfortunately, I thought rapists must have some caution to get away with it, but this is totally not true.
It’s sad to learn, in so many pregnancies, there is no choice to begin them. Partner/marital rape, deception, coercion, stealthing, etc. Secrecy and gaslighting hides the truth. It is impossible to understand how many kids are not consensual, but I now know the number must be shockingly high.
Forced birth traps the childbearer socially and economically to abusive partners and exes they cannot ignore. I have received confessions from Moms who love their children, but regret them for this reason. I would have never guessed. They are great parents who love, care for and admire their kids…but they didn’t choose to be parents.
Childbearing people are at a very high risk of getting “baby-trapped” which is ironic. The vast majority of fear I see in the wild is on the part of the man, who can actually easily abandon their babies. Maybe the cumbersome and incredibly slow court system might have wages garnished for child support… but they don’t have to be too clever to evade this. Lots of trades that pay under the table in cash, for starters.
So my idea that abortions should be rare, and I still think they should be, whitewashes that reality.
I still know that surely, many abortions must be a change of plans, or a contraception mistake. but now I also realize many of those stories cover for rapists. and it is horrifyingly normal for happy-looking families to suffer with abuse behind closed doors.
Abortions are the best way for pregnant people to escape this life. As long as we victim blame and let rapists get away with it and the rape kits go untested, abortions cannot be rare.
The bodily autonomy argument when it comes to abortion is obviously legit. It makes me angry and uncomfortable to consider. Clearly there is not much legal president or respect for bodily autonomy. drug prohibition and vice tax, overbearingly authoritative medical bureaucracy, criminalization of sex work, cops who can invent a probable cause and kill someone for resisting, no safe places to pee for trans people, even petty shit like seatbelts as a part of traffic enforcement.
We have a patronizing nanny state. Conservatives love to blame everyone else for this. But I think most of it stems from constant legal and social enforcement of religious and hetero-nuclear “family values”… to the point of absurdity, they now attacking Disney films!… a legendarily litigious and conservative company who produces the most whitewashed films available…Wow, Disney is quite a tangent for the abortion issue. I guess that’s a good stopping point.
