It’s a long weekend. Three days. I have most of my energy back post-covid and discovered that my B12 levels have stayed elevated all by themselves! So why not decorate the living room?
I figured a day to remove the wallpaper and fill any old screw holes then a couple of days to paint two coats.
And this weekend is perfect since R is away, watching hockey.
Well. It took me TWO DAMN DAYS to remove the wallpaper. Two days of 8am-5pm then 7am-5pm. And I haven’t even removed it all because I need R to help me move the telly off the wall before I strip that section of that wall.
It’s vinyl wallpaper, good quality stuff, and has been there at least 19 years as it was summer 2003 that we first looked around the house with a view to buying it. So it was stuck on pretty damn well.
For each section I had to pull the outer layer, the waterproof part, off first before spraying the ever loving fuck out of the lining layer and then scraping away at it. So essentially I had to strip the walls twice. And it’s a living/dining room so quite long.
On top of that, I noticed green sticky ooze coming out of a couple of sockets. As we all know, I’m sure (Google certainly helped me to know), this can mean one of three things:
-
aliens are living in the electrics
-
ghosts are living (or at least undeading) in the electrics
-
the plastic coating of the wire has deteriorated and caused oxidisation of the copper wires.
I did listen for the vworp vworp of the tardis (while hoping it would be the 12th doctor) or the “duh Dee durdledeeerrr” of the ghostbusters but alas, it wasn’t to be.
So now I need an electrician before I can bloody the paint!
And since we’re getting an electrician, I’ll ask ‘em to do something I’ve wanted for ages, at least 18 years since we moved in… more sockets in the bedroom. There is literally one! I’ll ask them to put doubles in on both sides of the bed. Heck, the bedroom needs to be decorated too!
