Finding a New Fine Line in Everyday Ramblings

From a couple of days ago the yellow is Oregon grape, which is our state flower. The pink behind it is a flowering currant and behind that are the three baby ornamental cherries planted two years ago.

The pollen is heavy. Kes sent me a photo this week of a Bushtit with its face stained yellow from pollen. And certainly, her car has pollen in all the crevices and cracks I saw yesterday when collected my clothes and “stuff” from the beach trip.

She drove up here on her own and stayed a few hours and drove home. I am sure she was tired, but this is a major accomplishment and shows that her energy has stabilized at a higher level. Such a gift for her to be able to get out on her own.

They are hoping to get Mr. Sherlock stabilized as well as his condition has progressed. He had to have blood work on Thursday to see if he could tolerate this toxic infusion, but for now he is on an astonishing dose of steroids. Mrs. Sherlock is hoping against hope that he can settle so she can make her long delayed bike trips in the fall.

A being just doesn’t know how things are going to pan out.

I finished my Bodyweight program today. Eight weeks. I missed one class when we were at the beach. She is going to do a bone health program in the fall. One of the teachers from my weekly teachers’ call is interested so that is cool. I like the idea of overlapping worlds.

Diego has been having a good week. I think my going away was good for him as his diet options were limited and he wasn’t so anxious and clingy because I wasn’t here to fixate on. My cat sitter adores him but is only here briefly.

This break was helpful for us both. I might consider asking for some anti-anxiety meds for him. His insecurity has got to be making his chronic condition worse.

I need to cut back on my teaching schedule. The obvious thing to go is the weight training practices. I am still working on this, but I think I am going to offer hour-long sessions once a month or so for each of us to plan out training on our own and providing accountability and support. I want to continue to offer encouragement for my students to keep going with strength training in their own time frame with their individual goals in mind.

I am taking a bone health workshop midweek and am looking forward to that.

Mrs. Sherlock knows me well and I was completely zonked towards the end of this week in the afternoon. And I need time for the garden!

The veggies are in, tomorrow I am going to plant the rest of the flower seeds.

At some point I am going to book a day trip down to work in Kes’s garden, weed and help with whatever she would like to accomplish. I took the bus home last week and everyone was good about masks. I am not sure how I will feel when the transportation mask mandates come down. I can still wear an N95 and should be okay, but I will need to test before I see her.

Mrs. Sherlock is interested in birds but not really a birder, but I talked to her this morning about going to some local wildlife sites over the next few months. Maybe even doing an Audubon day trip. She has a car so I wouldn’t need to carpool with a stranger. It is such a simple ask but I want to see a male red-winged blackbird sing his heart out on a reed. I love the sound they make. Kind of metallic.

I can’t even, when it comes to the war. I can’t comprehend the cruelty. It doesn’t mean I am not touched by the suffering or don’t think about it.

The Wordle bug has not bitten here yet, but I admit I have taken up Spelling Bee. It is a fine line where the word search is enjoyable and distracting and gets to the point of frustration. I think it is a fun thing for couples to do together.

For some reason, Diego isn’t much help.
