For farmish records.
I buy two bags of feed a month at 18 a bag = 36 per month.
To harvest an angora takes 3-4 months. Lets say 4 months because I like my wool to grow long.
4 months X 36 a month = 144 in feed for 4 months.
Harvest rates very per bun. from 2 oz to 6 oz, with 9 total buns ( on the current feed ration)
One bun produces 6 oz, one produces 4 oz, the rest produce just over 2 oz of prime wool ( discounting seconds) so say 24 oz of wool.
24 oz of wool X 10 an oz average going rate is 240.
So if i were to sell my wool. I would make roughly 240 every 4 months for angora wool.
If I were to buy wool at 10 an oz for that amount i spend on food of 144. I can get 14 oz or just under a lb. Roughly. I can sometimes see wool being sold for 4-6 an oz. SOMETIMES, not often, generally its 10-12 an oz. But this also varies by time of year. Curerntly i only found about 5 oz for sale on etsy for under 10 dollars. From two sellers. including shipping brings it closer to 8 an oz.
But we arent factoring in grooming time, feeding time, kids helping out due to my work schedule. water costs ( their ac runs on water) and electricity costs. Im JUST factoring in food.
They should be going to their new home soon....
