these are the lives that I have lived
these are the cars that I have driven

a colt run into a ditch
a twice-mothballed sunbird
a truly banged-up voyager
a hand-me-down cutlass
a shiny silver scion
a silver scion tarnished
a silver scion taken away in the night and I didn't put up a fight
and these days I drive a borrowed focus
a well-worn but sturdy borrowed focus
together we will barrel toward an indistinct distant line-of-sight

these were the lives
these were the cars
these are the cars
