asked me if there was any way to continue to see her sister who believes in corporal punishment when my friend does not.
Well, the answer is of course no, if my friend wants to be consistent.
Because, if my friend is against corporal punishment because of the detrimental long term effects, but also says that she can trust her sister’s child in a long-term relationship with her own child, then there is a fundamental contradiction. Her sister believes that corporal punishment will improve a child’s behavior with no long-term effects. That is the true opposite argument. So if my friend wants to hold the philosophy of peaceful parenting, she cannot also hold a philosophy of corporal punishment is okay while she’s not around.
Just saying. Philosophy is an amazing tool. It will simplify your life and make you a happier person.
