Does anyone else pour boiling water over their little shredded wheat loaves, drain the water off, and then add their brown sugar and milk? Someone thought that this way of eating it, which is how I eat it, is weird.

I do not. I add the milk, and skip the sugar, which is apparently also weird.
But I do not think either of us eats it weird. And I've definitely heard of your method. Wasn't it one of the recipe variants on the box years ago?

Could have been. I just remember growing up eating it that way.

I never tried it that way, but it makes sense. Shredded wheat is awfully dry. Like eating hay.

When I was a child, I used to eat that stuff with nothing on it and nothing added! I haven't eaten it for years so I bought Weetabix.
I now officially hate it, no matter what I mix it with! I hate to throw away food but this one has been tossed out! Out of my life forever!

Oh I love weetabix.

I was really disappointed that I don't like it any more! It seems going from the teenager I used to be to the Officially Old Person I am now {86}, has changed not only my appearance but how some foods taste!

Oh yes! I was brought up on it! Only not just ordinary milk, but the evaporated milk by Carnation or Ideal.(not sweetened condensed). Straight from the can so thick and creamy but pourable.
It was that or Porridge also with the evaporated milk swilling around the edges and a big dollop of golden syrup. We also ate “sugar butties” white sliced bread with butter and sugar, sandwiches. And bread dipped in bacon fat or melted lard with ketchup.

Glad to know that I am not the only one
We used Carnation as kids. We have Eagle sweetened condensed milk.
