Still loving roller derby, still hating work. Last night in roller derby, I had my first go at racing and also a bit of blocking and jamming! I was terrified but I think I did quite well. I like how everyone is all in the same class, from absolute beginners to experts who've been doing it for years. Because everyone's so nice, they don't mind if you're going round at snail's pace and getting in their way, and everyone gives tips and helps out if they can. We had a team racing event, I was at the back and the person at the front said afterwards that she kept looking back to make sure I wasn't being left behind, and she was amazed that I managed to keep up with them all for the entire 15 laps. smug mode on
On Saturday we're going to watch my team play a bout, the first game I've seen! So I'm looking forward to seeing them in action.
Tomorrow me and Jay are going to Nottingham for my friend David's birthday.
I keep finding things out about my friends from reading cryptic messages between people on Facebook. Apparently David and Lindy have split up, only two years after they got married, and he has a new girlfriend. I found out when I saw photos of David holding hands with someone so I asked someone else to fill me in.
Also, my friend Luke is no longer Luke, he's now called Sara. When did this happen and why did no one tell me? Sara has a new profile account with Everyone From Loughborough added as a friend, but not me! I'm a bit miffed, me and Luke were quite close when I lived in Loughborough, but now no one even feels the need to inform me that he's changed identity. I had no idea that he even felt inclined in the female direction.
Oh I know I live 50 miles away, but I still go to every event that I can, it upsets me that big things happen in people's lives and they don't include me :o(
On the plus side, Charlie and Luke (a different Luke) have invited us to their wedding next July in Devon. It's 200 miles away! So I suggested to Jay that we make a holiday of it, maybe spend a few days on the coast to make it worth the journey. I've never been to Devon before so that'll be nice.
I realise there are a lot of names in there and you probably have no idea who any of them are, I'm just rambling.

I'm guessing like that's invited you to his wedding isn't luke / Sara?
Odd Socks ⋅ May 15, 2014
Like was meant to say luke in that comment xxx

Oh yeah, it's a different Luke! Maybe I should edit and clarify, thanks for pointing that out!

We tend to combine holidays and weddings! X

Good going on the blocking/jamming!

Well it was only gentle stuff but was still quite exciting for a noob like me!

Wow, there's nothing that makes a person feel out of the loop more than finding out that your friend has changed genders! (I'm assuming that "out of the loop" isn't just an American phrase, so hopefully it makes sense!)

Ha, no we say it over here as well :-) but yeah, what's with that?? I'm seeing them all tomorrow so I shall be asking questions!

RYN: Please don't mistake oil folk for "normal" Canadians. The two don't typically get along.
I wrote you a reply , but I couldn't put it on your note, so I put it on one of Sonja's, where you wouldn't get a notification. Also, they is a note by Symmetry (who lived in an oil town) that can back me up.

I am so happy that ou are doing derby. That is awesome!
I would love to join, but co-ed roller derby doesn't happen any more :(

I'm happy too, I love it!
We have a few men in our training sessions, which are two or three times a week, but they're not allowed to play in bouts, they can only train to be referees. I suppose it's because it's a full contact sport and it wouldn't really be fair if there were big burly men playing against little ladies!

It used to be co-ed, but it has since become girls-only club. No men's teams here. I submitted my name to be a ref, but didn't hear back. However, that was a while ago, when the league was still forming and probably a bit disorganized. I may try again.
I'd actually just like to play any team sport that is predominantly populated by women. Seems more welcoming and supportive. Not like the macho chest thumping/genital measuring that happens when you get enough men together in the same place and time.

In old-school roller derby, when it was co-ed, men and women would alternate rounds, so it's not like you'd have dudes beating up ladies.

Do you not have any men only teams? There are a few over here.

Wow that's pretty rotten that you weren't informed one of your friends had changed genders!
