Our mother has been absent
Ever since we founded Rome
But there’s gonna be a party when the wolf comes home..
Up to ‘Salem’s Lot to meet the newest member of the family. Only a few weeks old, and a preemie, he mostly slept, fed, cried, pooped, and slept.
I am oddly satisfied that my participation in that phase of anyone’s life is over. I have changed the last diaper I will ever change.
As If.
It has worked all my life, and as a backhanded “affirmation” but after coming home, I made a list of improvements I would make to this townhouse mine. Adding cabinets in the kitchen/dining room. Re-tiling the kitchen. Putting a window in the end of the hallway upstairs, facing south. Fixing the trim around the garage door. Sealing the garage floor, sealing the driveway. Replacing the fencing in the back yard.
The list could go on.
Maudlin…
In the cleaning and clearing effort I finally arrived at the closet that contains all my utility uniforms,
I sat down this afternoon and started removing insignia and ranks from those uniforms. I would be lying if I said it didn’t hurt.
For most of the entirety of my adult life that was what I was. Realizing I am no longer that. Every stich I pulled, I asked myself “Really, this is it?”
I kept one desert flight suit, one green flight suit, and the desert field jacket. Everything else is stripped and ready for Good Will tomorrow at 10am.
Since I haven’t heard anything to the contrary, it appears we aren’t going to breakfast tomorrow. Hurricane Larry is blasting past, high tide being around 1600 tomorrow. I’m planning loading the car with my wet suit, half board and fins and enjoying my first time in the water in two years. The surf is supposed to be magnificent.
I am really hoping to hear from my new best friend at New Day sometime Monday. Man o man, if I could somehow get under contract by Wednesday it would save me 10K.
There’s bound to be a ghost at the back of your closet
No matter where you live
There’ll all ways be a few things, maybe several things
That you’re gonna find really difficult to forgive
There’s gonna come a day when you’ll feel better
You’ll rise up free and easy on that day
And float from branch to branch, lighter than the air
Just when that day is coming, who can say? Who can say?
Our mother has been absent
Ever since we founded Rome
But there’s gonna be a party when the wolf comes home
We’re gonna comandeer the local airwaves
To tell the neighbors what’s been going on
And they will shake their heads and wag their bony fingers
In all the wrong directions and by daybreak we’ll be gone
I’m gonna get myself in fighting trim
Scope out every angle of unfair advantage
I’m gonna bribe the officals, I’m gonna kill all the judges
It’s gonna take you people years to recover from all of the damage
Our mother has been absent
Ever since we founded Rome
But there’s gonna be a party when the wolf comes home, oh
