I noticed years ago an ability to tell myself when to wake up in the morning. “Oh, wake up at 6 am” I’d set an alarm anyway, yet I’d wake up a few minutes before it. Tell myself to sleep in? I do.
But thinking now, there’s a critical factor in waking up earlier: wanting to. I went to bed at 1:15 am. I woke up at 5:15 am despite telling myself to sleep. Why’d I wake up AND get up rested?
I was looking forward to this morning.
It’s such a simple, yet understated thing.
If I’m depressed and don’t want to get up in the morning, no amount of logic an overpower that. But if I generally WANT to be awake and engaged in the morning, I’ll tend to wake up earlier.
tl;dr: Woke up at 5 am (after bedding @ 1 am), rolled over, got out of bed, rinsed my face, oatmealed, hit the gym and had a GREAT workout. <3 I knew the funk I’d been in since Thursday would pass.
