Since we’re out material I’ve been in assembly since Friday. I managed to make up an excuse and leave early then but no dice today. There is poor ventilation, they use a lot of chemicals (with harmful fumes) and it’s so freakin’ hot in there! Seriously, the front of my shirt was dripping. I was wearing rubber gloves and sweat was dripping out of them, too! Ugh!
Today we stenciled instructions on Harpoon missile transport casings. Lots of painting tape, black spray paint and MEK (real bad stuff) solvent when I screwed up. They have to be near perfect with no smudges or bleeding of the paint through the stencil. There is a trick to it, some were good but I had to redo a lot of them.
After that we mixed some awful smelling adhesive with this thickening powder that forms a hard block when fully set. We used that to basically glue the brass fixture to the fiberglass casing. Well, the assembly boss did that. The other guy and I did the mixing. It wasn’t to bad honestly. Just unpleasant, harsh smells and the stagnant air.
I did have a respirator and humored myself talking like Bane from The Dark Knight Rises. So I had that going for me.
Shower time.
I stink!
