The are a pair of blackbirds who appear every 20 minutes or so in the garden - look around, so some hunting in the grass - then stand on the fence with whatever they have found in the beaks before flying off. It just reminds you of the pressure birds are under to feed their young at this time of year - as well as keep themselves fed too. So the worms and slugs are off to the nest - so it is the equivalent of going to the cornershop every hour to get food for ravenous kids.

Whereas in parts of the UK starlings are declining they are not here. They descend in parties, like fighter squadrons hoovering up bread - and trying to eat the sunflower hearts in the feeder - or else scattering the seeds and eating them off the ground.

When I was young I took no notice of birds - but with a conservatory jutting into the garden it is a joy to see them - greenfinches, sparrows, chaffinches - but not pigeons please!!!

And talking of birds - this seems an interesting thing to have!!!! Are, those were the days before mobiles alt text
