At the Beginning of the Learning Curve in Everyday Ramblings

These crocuses seeded themselves across the street from my kitchen window. They are so cheerful strewn across a grassy parking meridian.

There is a lot of waiting going on around here. If I don’t get my vaccine on Wednesday using Charity’s appointment, Mrs. Sherlock is going to drive me down to the state capitol Friday if I can get an appointment at the fairgrounds. They are also doubling the number of appointments in the lottery so soon, soon.

Mrs. Sherlock was feeling a bit headachy and sluggish Saturday after her first shot, because of that we did a more modest walk on Saturday morning. There are certain elements of walking with the two of them that is like walking with a couple of experienced 5th graders. They are an absolute hoot together and not in the least uncomfortable with being silly.

We sometimes stop at this Moroccan coffee place where they get pistachio lattes, and we sit outside in what sun there is. This walk, we had changeable spring weather that involved a couple of quick modest showers, big fast-moving skies and bolts of sunlight. We were down by the river so there was a cool breeze.

It was so great to have both of them vaccinated! When I finally get my second shot we are going to get in a car, or cars, go somewhere and walk in another place. Anywhere else. There are always new developments and things to look at in the neighborhood, but a few walks elsewhere will be good for the soul.

I am working my way through the intuitive eating course and am about a third of the way in. There is lots of support, but a lifetime of self-directed fat phobia is one heck of a hill to climb. The great thing about doing this now is that I don’t have some sort of self or culturally imposed need to find a mate. I could care less.

But still, recording my classes and looking at them is hard. Not the class part, or the student part, or even the technology part, it is the looking at myself part. Ugh.

Some days are fine. Some days are not.

I love Charlaine Harris, and I finished listening to her newest “The Russian Cage” yesterday on audiobook. I enjoyed the mash up of Western, Alternate History, Romance and Magic (this is the 3rd in the “Gunnie Rose” series) but after I finished it, I commented out loud to the cats that all the main female characters were thin.

Diet Culture is insidious and everywhere. It is such a paradigm shift to let go of it.

The good news is that my back and my arthritis are basically manageable now with the movement I am doing. I could use some strength training though. This if you do not use it you lose it thing does kick in about 65. I am so glad that for now I don’t need to work with a PT and am functional on my own in all the ways that matter.

And according to the almanac we are through our last freeze. I need to start getting my gardening mojo going as I have a lot to learn. Mrs. Sherlock did approve of where I want to put my tomato plants though and had some good ideas for extending the usage of the plot.
