It's ANZAC Day here in Australia.

And I couldn't help thinking about one of my ancestors - one of my great-grandfathers on my mother's side. I know very little about my great-grandparents on my father's side, but my mother's maternal grandfather was a member of the French Resistance in WWII. My mother's paternal grandfather passed away in 1991 - I have no recollection of meeting Great-Grandfather C. but my mother has fond memories of him.

Great-grandfather C. was raised by his aunt, having been given up by his biological mother. He was born in Australia, and then left to New Zealand. He served in WWII, and I was told that he was a POW for a time. He married and had a son - my grandfather (who I've been able to google and get a little bit of information on that has helped me to "get to know him a bit better", as he wasn't as involved in my upbringing as my other grandparents). Great-grandfather C. was honoured in the local Maori community at one point in his life, although I'm not exactly sure on all the details.

He passed away, as I said in 1991, in New Zealand. In the town he loved.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them
