the big game in poetry

when the alien anthropologists find
the massive sport stadia so central to
our civic infrastructures as megaliths
sprouting cities-within-cities beside
they will mistake them as our houses
of worship, as the heart of our faiths
as the temples of our gods and the
crux of our cultural significance
and they’ll be right
god damn us all
