The Triumvirate(s). in Whey and Sonic Screwdrivers.

Trekkies know this term well. Kirk, Spock, Bones.

It plays into Freud rather well. Spock is the logical Superego. Bones is the raw emotion, the Id. And Kirk mediates them, as the Ego. This much is obvious.

There’s another Triumvirate.

Gimli is so the Id, raw emotion, shooting his mouth off. Legolas is the logical Superego, to a fault and to his strength. And Aragorn is Ego, the moderator between the two.

Thing is.

Maybe I haven’t consumed enough media.

Where’s the female Triumvirate? And I don’t mean just genderswapping. Tolkien may have written LotR a hundred years ago, but I don’t think Gene Roddenberry and D.C. Fontana were directly inspired by LotR. Yet, that theme is there.

Eh, just talking out loud.
