Onslaught in Adventures in paradise

I was on my first break at work when I got the message from Brande’ saying Brisbane was going into lockdown for 3 days. Uh oh. I braced myself. I went back inside and asked some of my workmates if they’d heard the news. It had just broken, so they hadn’t. It was all holds barred from that point on. MAN YOUR FORTS, peoples!

We were bombarded. We’re already a smaller store than most, so the amount of people inside, not wearing masks (a few were) and not social distancing was insane. Those lucky few customers who got in first were ALL holding bags of toilet paper. Heeeeeere we go again. LOL. Fuck people are stupid. I won’t go into details, as we all know how this works - out of control demand equals zero stock on shelves. Staff had to act as makeshift crowd controllers. The lines were out of the shopping complex, down the main road lol. I was constantly getting trolleys - once I got them in, they were all gone again. The clever customers (I only saw about two) had grabbed their own trolleys from the carpark downstairs and lined up with them. The product limit communication didn’t come through until too late, which was in place from about 5pm.
I literally had to take my lunch off the shelves (I asked for permission) and pay for it later as I was leaving work, which I obviously did.
One woman scoffed at me as I was frantically trying to restock the freezer (when I could actually get to it), “You’ve let them panic-buy again,” - as if it was my fault LOL. Stupid mole. Looks like she’ll have to improvise with an old rag.

Brande’ reckons the lockdown will extend for a further 2-days on Monday, as he knows someone who works in government. Apparently they decided just to announce the 3-day lockdown so people wouldn’t go too crazy. This is all over 1-single case mind you, which the media has made sure everyone knows is the “70% more contagious U.K. strain”, so of course dumb sheep are going to flock. That poor woman has been doing everything right, so bless her. Yet there was certainly no lockdown around the man/woman who had the South African strain not long ago on the Sunshine Coast.
Our Prime Minister has since announced that all passengers on inbound international flights must test negative before being able to board the plane. LOL, coulda done with that a year ago, Scotty.
Anyway. Masks are mandatory from 6pm last night. It was my first time properly wearing one (other than in an Uber), so I can say I’ve joined the masses now :) I think I was wearing it upside down at one point LOL. Whoops. Thankfully it’s still quite breathable as an N95. The back of my ears were a bit sore from the straps, but I figure that’s cos I’m not used to it yet. I’ve gotta get through my next two shifts wearing it, as I’m still an essential worker. My gym is closed again, so that blows, but, hopefully nothing spread in that onslaught of panic-buyers across hundreds of stores yesterday before the rules came in, otherwise we’re fucked.

Fun times!
