About the Butcher Paper in Everyday Ramblings

We are getting the weather formerly know as San Francisco weather. Dense heavy fog in the mornings burning off to bright cool afternoons. If you look center right, you can see Mt. Hood. This is from my walk today.

A personal tech person is much needed around here, figuring out all this stuff is intense. Sometimes I will be in the middle of setting something up and I am like, what???, what does that mean? I used to think of myself as pretty tech savvy; it was a big part of my job, but now, wow.

I am making progress though. Yesterday I recorded my first ever live class and except for some rather dramatic attention seeking ploys by Diego (oh I know, Mom is teaching I will burrow under this packing/butcher paper she left out here and rustle around under it, oh this is so fun…) it went well.

And I got it up on Vimeo so my subscribing students can access it. I am good to go for my first live (and recorded floor class) on Friday. Tomorrow I am just teaching a normal relaxed non recorded class.

The money stuff is all set up so I can take recurring payments in various forms. I just need to figure out how to stop those when students need to cancel. I have a tutorial for that.

Next stop is a website. I am doing all this without using social media. My business guys are great for idea generation and moral support but when it gets into… and how do I make this link to a recording work before I make the recording… the detail stuff, the mind freezes like a rabbit that senses a shadow overhead.

But still, I am making progress. I am adapting.

I watched a continuing ed livestream about lower back pain and sciatica yesterday from a teacher in the U.K., very experienced, clearly in her living room and I was impressed at how relaxed and unselfconscious she was at moving the camera around so we could see what is helpful and useful.

I aspire to that level of ease with all this.

Things have calmed down from last week and I hope to have a normal class tomorrow after all the drama.

It is such a dramatic time isn’t it though? We had more people die in one day in our state from Covid-19 today then ever before. It is so sad. I think of the suffering, the families, and all those giving care to the patients and their families.

Mrs. Sherlock says Frieda is doing better and we all should be able to go for a full walk on Saturday. I am walking with Charity solo on Thursday and the plan is in and amongst all the other things tomorrow to make Snickerdoodles. I have never made them before.

Last week I participated in this cool League of Women voters discussion unit on Health Care with an emphasis on Women’s Health. We watched a panel discussion with four wonderful local doctors on our own time and then the unit got together on Zoom and talked about the issues and policy and expressed opinions and it was wonderful, very thoughtful and well thought out.

The ironic thing is that the woman that led both the panel and the discussion was my boss, the head of our department 19 years ago when I first went to work for my now former employer. I loved that job and most of the people that worked there and am still in touch with a few of them.

I was heartbroken when I got laid off. It had to do with a reorganization that was generated to eliminate the position of a legacy person I reported to who was creating problems and had a few of her own. Our department head left soon after I was let go to take a job at a very prestigious university hospital back east.

And now she is back, retired and very active in the League. Very very cool.

I surfaced some ideas for some broader community involvement during the talk and maybe I will be able to do some of that when I get all this business stuff humming along and you know…herd immunity after the vaccines get out to us all.

Or I could just write poems.

Of course, if Diego has anything to do with it I would wait on him and his whims all day long, forget the rest.

Cats! Do the Biden’s know what they are getting themselves into?
