(I’m using yesterday’s prompt because I do like it!)
What are ten (10) things you are grateful for?
- My husband. He’s not everyone’s cup of tea - he can be brash and loud and he’s never afraid to speak his mind - but he’s absolutely my person. He’s unswervingly loyal and loving and I cannot imagine my life without him.
- My kids. They made me crazy, but they are turning into great humans and I’m so glad I get to watch them develop their personalities. I sincerely hope I’m not fucking them up.
- My dogs. There are SO MANY of them right now - four! - but they are all really good creatures, and I love them - even when they shed and fill my house in dirt and noise.
- My house. I just love this house so much. Like my husband, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea - it’s way out in the suburbs and the yard could use some work - but it’s ours and we’ve spent so much time and energy making it better this year. The one big benefit of staying home so much in 2020 is that we’ve gotten like five years of home improvement projects done! But I’ve loved it since we moved in, I just love it even more now that it’s personalized.
- My job. I stayed home with the kids for so long that I was legitimately worried I would never be able to get hired for a job I loved, and I was so wrong. I love the work, I love my coworkers, I don’t even mind most of the patrons. I really feel like I’ve found my place, and I’m so grateful.
- My friends. It can be super hard to make friends as an adult, but I’m really fortunate to have a close group of girlfriends here. We have a group chat that helps us stay in touch, and I know if things are really bugging me I can always talk to them (individually or as a group).
- My sister. My relationship with my mom was always at least a little fraught, but my sister has been my rock for as long as I can remember. Even when she lived overseas she always worked hard to keep in touch with me, which I really appreciate since I’m not great at keeping up with people. She’s just fabulous.
- The number of good books I have at my disposal. I have so much fantastic reading material to look forward to in the near future, and that makes me really delighted.
- The weather here right now. It’s beautiful out - the high today is 66 and the low is 43 (that’s about 19 and 6 for my Celsius-based readers), and I’m going to spend some time outside as soon as I’m done with this entry. I really should take a dog for a walk.
- That the orange menace lost the election, even if he won’t admit it. He’ll be forced to eventually, and I can hardly wait to have someone sane in the White House!
