05: How important is having a routine to you?
In my older age, it’s becoming more of a positive. It’s something to look forward to, but staying on the routine is hard when you take care of a handicapped parent. But, I’m trying to do this one baby step at a time.
For example, I’m trying to be better at having at least a cup of tea at night before bed. It’s a time to really slow down.
When I was younger, the idea of having a regular routine outside of classes, work, and personal hygiene was unfathomable. I loved my spontaneity. I loved the adventures.
I will admit, I do miss them.
But, I don’t recover quite as easily or quickly, nor do I have the finances to do so now.
Having a work routine helps me get a lot done in a short amount of time with minimal physical effort. Lately, my knees and hips have been horrible, so I’ve been finding ways to rest a bit while doing my closing duties at work.
Home routine? It’s very basic: wake up, meds, check on mom, eat, chores/errands, check on mom, watch a show with mom, cook, more chores, occasionally make jewelry, meds, then sleep. Or an attempt to sleep.
But, with all the Rona, that’s all I can really do. Things are open, but limited.
I think I have quarantine depression.
