Angry gender rant in Boredoms

Earlier today I was treated to a lovely meme picture thing that Facebook thought I would enjoy seeing because some who was a "friend" liked it (she is now very much not a friend). I don't remember the exact wording but it was somewhere along the lines of "Ladies, if your boyfriend can't drive a manual (stick shift) then you have a girlfriend." I have a less than zero tolerance for bullshit like that. That is an especially big turd thrown in both directions, too. I can't decide who it insults more: men or women.

First of all, in case someone doesn't know this, women can drive stick shifts...there's no invisible secondary control that can only be operated by testicles. So fuck whatever douche had that notion in the empty ass space in his head (I think I can assume safely it was made by a dude).

Secondly, I never learned how to drive stick because I had no reason to. My dad taught me to drive on his SUV which was automatic and for my actually driving class I would have had to request to be taught on a stick which would have been pointless because why do I need a manual? I didn't live by the fucking Autobahn. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with people wanting to drive stick but it doesn't make you manlier. If you think it does you got yourself some serious damn insecurity issues you need to deal with.

I'm not a manly man by any standards. I've long since stopped buying into rigid gender standards and year after year I become more disgusted by their presence and enforcement. I think the part that bothers me the most about this thing popping up is that the ex-fb friend who liked it was a woman herself. She just supported a very blatantly misogynistic notion. I feel like by expressing enjoyment in that it wounds all women who have to struggle to be taken seriously. The fact that women even have to struggle to be taken seriously is total shit!

I don't have much (or really any) faith in humanity and I don't hold out much hope that any oppressive behaviors will ever truly be gone from society so I acknowledge that my furious rant serves no purpose other than to allow me to blurt out my frustration. Although, maybe the fact that I still get so angry about this stuff shows that I have some hope it can change, right? I don't know. Whatever.
