Today is Mother's Day, or Mothering Sunday to give it it's original title. My daughter sent me some special sweets, orange creams mmmm! my eldest son has just given me an orchid, he gives me one every year and I love them; my younger son is still asleep after a hard night out with his pals so I haven't had his gift yet.

I am thinking about my mum. When she died I found a small suitcase containing various items. There were letters from my father, photos of relatives long gone and a card that I once sent her on the first mother's day we spent apart after I had moved away from home. It contained a poem that I had forgotten I had written.

Last night I watched the film We Need to Talk About Kevin. What a film to show on TV on the eve of Mother's Day! I really wish I hadn't watched it. It totally traumatised me.

It looks as though it is going to be another sunny warm spring day so I hope to spend some time in the garden. Yesterday I planted some forget me nots and some white bellis daisies, they look lovely among the deep red tulips which are just coming out.
